Tomorrow, I make my glorious return to running.

01/11/2011

Two straight weeks of this wretched cross-training and my foot pain hasn’t subsided.

On the plus side, it hasn’t gotten any worse.

The thought of wheezing away on a machine inside the gym yet again tomorrow…? No. I can’t do it. I can’t.

My orthotics have not arrived yet, but I can’t wait another day. I really, truly can’t.

I did my time in cross training camp for two weeks. I did everything I was supposed to. I also felt grouchy, extremely stressed out about work, and frustrated at the challenge of furnishing an entire apartment using only the bus system.

So now? It’s time to run and hope for the best. Sometimes these things have a way of magically working themselves out, and that’s what I’m banking on. Tomorrow will be a high of 15*F with some Taku Wind action on top of it, but I’m going for a run. The end.

Cross training sucks when you’re injured. I REALLY hope everything works out fine and your foot is back to normal soon. I wish you a speedy USPS or UPS or FedEx or whoever is bringing your orthotics!

Ooh, I know you hate the gym and cross-training, but have you thought about doing a trial run on the treadmill first? That way if you find out midrun that it’s not going to work you’re not limping extra distance back home.

I could’ve written this post myself! Good luck w/ the run!

Do you not have a buddy with a pickup truck? That wouldn’t help your running, but it would help moving. I hope your run is faboosh <– a fake word I hate but which seemed oddly appropriate here.

Faboosh? Is that some kind of Middle Eastern delicacy, maybe served with falafel and hummus?

Some Subaru-owning buddies ended up coming to the rescue when it came time to schlep our beds! Thank goodness everyone here is so friendly.

Good luck today, hope it’s a fine and fabulous return to the road! Sorry to hear your foot’s not better, that’s a suck, but hopefully the orthotics will make a great difference for you. Lol on furnishing an apartment using buses (a horrendous prospect, hope you find another way).

We ended up getting help from car-owning friends for the biggest items — yay! But we did do a lot of bus moving too. Worth it for all the stories…
